I have just returned from an amazing community event. The funeral service and tea for a youth in our community who has tragically left this earth too, too soon! The service and gathering afterwards were unimaginably cathartic and uplifting. This is due to the wonderful people of Yarrow. This is a unique community. An enclave of traditional yet inclusive values tucked 'snuggly' between the growing cities of Abbotsford and Chilliwack. I am a teacher at the public elementary school in the community of Yarrow. I believe that a song should be written about this small historic community whose beauty shines in both its natural surroundings and the people who inhabit this small farming community. Community is the an important word when one discusses Yarrow. Enter historic facts here (I have to do a bit more research to get my dates correct!). The people here are literally 'close to nature' as the Vedder River runs through Yarrow. While cycling home the other evening I was mesmerized by the sounds of the running river as I walked my bicycle over the small railway/pedestrian bridge which connects Yarrow's dyke to the Rotary Trail. I was amazed at the number of fishermen braving the ever cooling waters to fish on this cloudy autumn evening. The sun had just set and the orange afterglow was hovering behind the distant mountains. I knew at that moment that I MUST write into Radio Two about Yarrow! This natural beauty combined with the lovely, caring people who have 'stepped up' this past week to help a grieving family also added to my motivation. I should also say that this family has been amazing in helping our community grieve in a healthy way as well.
Yarrow ROCKS!
Feist could write an awesome song about Yarrow--or one of our more local gals--a country song would work as well. I am sure CBC will have more great ideas for song writers.
PLEASE VOTE FOR YARROW!
